PEDIATRIC THERAPY

Welcome!

We provide pediatric occupational therapy services for children from birth to age 18. Evaluating function through neuro-developmental frameworks, we specialize in early intervention and medically complex children. This includes children under 7 with suspected developmental delays, infant screening and delayed infant milestones, children with cerebral palsy, genetic conditions, near-fatal drowning, HIE, traumatic brain injury, concussion, low-vision, and more. We assess each child’s functional ability, regardless of diagnosis.

What is Pediatric OT?

Pediatric OT means helping babies, children and youth improve their function in all areas of life! We can assist your child with the following

  • Gross Motor Skills: Motor planning and sequencing, coordination, strength, balance, reflex integration, delayed milestones, head control, independent sitting.

  • Fine Motor Skills: Grasp/grip strength, printing, hand dominance, bi-manual coordination, dexterity.

  • Oral-Motor Skills: Suck, swallow, breathing. Dysphagia and feeding concerns.

  • Auditory/Visual Skills: Visual processing, attention, and perception. Auditory attention and processing

  • Neurological Challenges

We specialize in working with children with neurological challenges and injury, including but not limited to cerebral palsy, stroke, hypoxia at birth, brain injury, near fatal drowning, and genetic conditions.

  • Development (0-8yrs)

Do you have questions or concerns about your growing child? Are you seeing some behaviors from your child that seem different from their peers or from their siblings? Have you been told multiple times that β€œthat’s normal for their age” or β€œthey’ll grow out of it.” Traditionally, medical professionals have been trained to take a β€œwait and see” approach with child development. However, with this approach, often by the time children receive an official diagnosis, many vital developmental windows have closed, and the opportunity to greatly reduce the symptoms of many challenges (e.g. dyslexia, DCD) has been lost. Research shows that early intervention is essential and best-practice to correct and/or support neurological difficulties to ensure that development is minimally impacted.

β€œThe development of the child during the first three years after birth is unequaled in intensity and importance by any period that precedes or follows in the whole life of the child.”

-Maria Montessori

  • Intensives

One of our most popular services, intensives take place in a single week (M-F). For 5 days in a row, the child receives 2-3 hours of therapy based on determined need. This format is available for all clients, however clients traveling from out of time and medically complex clients are prioritized with space limitations. We favour the intensive therapy format therapy for school aged children and children in a maintenance phase rather than weekly or biweekly sessions spread out through the year. Why? We find that children often advance to the next developmental skill or higher during the intensive. For example, if a child is using a walker, it is not uncommon for them to gain the strength, balance and ability to walk with crutches. Many children gain more progress towards their goals in three weeks of intensive therapy than they do in a whole 12 months of ongoing traditional therapy. (Price varies based on daily treatment length).
